Community Education Offers Pharmacy Technician Program with Convenient Scheduling

Estrella Mountain Community College's Community Education Department is once again offering its popular Pharmacy Technician program beginning September 12.The 72-hour, 12-week program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field by preparing them for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam.

Pharmacy Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other healthcare settings - working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Technicians can expect a starting salary of approximately $30,000 per year.Course content includes medical terminology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.

The program is offered during convenient times for working adults or other interested students with complex schedules. Classes will be offered Tuesday/Thursday evenings 6:30-9:30pm (9/15-12/10/09) or Saturdays 9:00am-3:30pm (9/12-12/12/09). Tuition is $915 (including books).
