AVONDALE, Arizona – Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) continues the tradition of offering non-credit, personal enrichment classes that are affordable, fast, and fun for all ages. EMCC’s Community Education has recently published its Spring 2016 Schedule of Classes and are now open for enrollment.

Adult and teen learners can choose from computers, business and finance, CPR, languages, photography, art, painting, music, acting, dance, gems and jewelry, Mah Jong and much more. Short-term classes are offered at various times during February through May, with tuition ranging from $15 to $159.

This spring, EMCC’s very popular and summer favorite for kids and parents, “Kids College,” will be offering two classes that coincide with the K-8 spring break schedule, March 7 – 11, 2016. Classes are for kids ages 5 through 12.

Stage Call for new Community Band and Choir members

With the opening of EMCC’s newly constructed, state-of-the-art  Performing Arts Center (PAC) in fall 2015, there was an opportunity to expand the Community Education music course offerings to introduce the formation of a Community Band class and a Community Choir class. Class fee for each is $75. No auditions are required. Both classes culminate with a public performance.

The Community Band will be directed by co-directors, Dr. Kyle Brown, current band director at Youngker High School in Buckeye, and Robert Rudy, a retired Arizona Music Educator from Paradise Valley Unified Schools, Littleton Elementary and Avondale Elementary School Districts. Both directors have extensive interest in band and music, and both are currently members of the Arizona Music Educators Association. Classes are scheduled for Thursdays, February 11 – May 5, 2016, at 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., in the EMCC PAC auditorium.

The Community Choir will be directed by Tina Clark, who currently teaches Voice at EMCC and directs the Palm Valley Elementary School Choir and the Calvary United Methodist Church Choir. She has been teaching in the Litchfield Elementary School District for 27 years and is well known in the West Valley for her passion and excellence in music education. Classes are scheduled for Mondays, February 8 – May 2, 2016, at 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., in the EMCC PAC auditorium.
