New class search launched

March 27, 2014

Estrella Mountain Community College's new online class schedule search was launched at the 2014 Student Success Fair. The portal adds new features and improves searching to support student success through ease of use, enhanced functionality, and data improvements.

  • Responsive design: Responsive theme allows content to be conveniently viewed on all digital platforms and sizes.
  • Improved search: Classes searchable with more broadly intelligent keywords, such as “math,” “healthcare,” or “art.” Classes can also be searched by instructor name, and course and SUN numbers.
  • Categories: Students who may not know what classes are offered or understand college prefixes can browse based on areas of study. Categories improve searchability and cross-promote related course subjects.
  • Results pages: More relevant information presented in a more convenient format. Icons and color-coding designate class types, availability and more.
  • Class pages: Individual classes now have their own details pages with expanded information for students.
  • Wish List: Students can build a Wish List for registration. By adding classes to a “shopping cart,” students can save or print.
  • Job-training programs: Clock-hour occupational programs are now searchable.
  • Catalog browsing: For a broad look at options, all courses taught during current and upcoming semesters are browsable based on the Academic Catalog.
  • Help page: New page provides step-by-step guidance and more information about classes, including how to use the search, as well as information about class designations, definitions, formats, and registration in one convenient location.

The new online class schedule was a joint project developed over the last year through the collaborative efforts of Academic Affairs/Instructional Services, Information Technology, Marketing & Public Relations, Occupational Education/SouthWest Skill Center, and Student Affairs.
