Two Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) students were recently selected for the prestigious 2015 All-Arizona Academic Team, which recognizes the top community college students in the state. Monica LeMoine and Riana Jacquez will both will receive a full, two-year scholarship and tuition waiver to any of Arizona's three state universities (ASU, UA, NAU).

At the recent 20th Annual All-Arizona Academic Awards Ceremony, the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) organization and its partnering sponsors honored 74 academic all-stars from Arizona’s community colleges including 26 from the Maricopa Community Colleges.

Students are ranked and placed in one of three teams, and those achieving the status of “Team 1” become eligible for the All-USA competition which further selects the top 20 national scholars. Both LeMoine and Jacquez achieved the distinction and honor of ranking in Team 1. Those top 20 will then be featured in USA Today and become eligible for additional scholarships from USA Today and Coca-Cola Foundation.

Two weeks after the ceremony, LeMoine received the notification that she was further selected as a National Gold Scholar on the Coca-Cola 2015 Community College Academic Team. The Gold Scholar is the top honor and comes with $1,500 scholarship and national recognition.
