Volunteers at Estrella Mountain Community College Raise an All-Time High for United Way

AVONDALE, Ariz. - What do you get when you combine hard work, compassion and a crew of volunteers? You get a total of $46,500 raised for the Valley of the Sun United Way Crisis Response Fund. Employees and students of Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) who held a silent auction, sold food and contributed personal wages, among other things, raised the money for the 2001 ampaign. Funds will be used by the Valley of the Sun United Way in providing relief to victims of hardships or emergency situations, locally and nationally--such as victims' families of the 9-11 tragedy. Estrella Mountain has supported the Valley of the Sun United Way since the inception of the college 10 years ago.

In November, Estrella Mountain volunteers also participated in the annual "Make a Difference Day." Thirty-one students and staff temporarily took over at the West Side Food Bank to prepare food boxes for needy West Valley families.

Described by all at EMCC as the best United Way campaign in the campus's history, the campus exceeded the previous years' totals and has reset the bar for the future!
