Media Advisory – Southwest Valley Black History Event

What: The Southwest Black History Committee will hold its annual event celebrating black heritage. Festivities include live music, poetry reading, mime, vendors and a children's play area. Highlighted groups are - The Windy City Spiritualaires of Chicago, gospel (on stage at 3 p.m.); The Aaron Nelson Project, R&B (on stage at 4 p.m.); and Yielded Vessels, a mime ministry. Keynote speaker is Obie Washington, community activist and liaison representing Michigan in the 1995 Million Man March held in Washington, D.C.

When: Saturday, February 9, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Where: Estrella Mountain Community College 3000 N. Dysart Road, Avondale(located on the corner of Dysart and Thomas Roads)

Who: Public, students, elected officials, event organizers, event sponsors

Details: The event is free and open to the public. Vendors will have food, clothing, art and crafts for sale.
