High School Students Network to Further Their Careers

Avondale, Ariz. - For a certain group of high school students, graduation is more than just the culmination of four long years -it's the beginning of a career. After completing a four-course networking curriculum, forty juniors and seniors at the EMCC Cisco Networking Academy at Metro Tech High School are on their way to receiving Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, the industry standard in networking. These students, who learned to design, build and test networks, were honored May 18 at a special ceremony at EMCC.

The valuable CCNA certification prepares students for careers in computer technology and systems support, with the ability to obtain advanced certifications. Students of the program were able to earn up to 19 college credits while completing requirements for their high school diploma.

EMCC Cisco Instructional Coordinator, Becky Breitwieser, had this to say about the program. "It allows the kids to dream of a future they may not have thought of before and it gives them the skills to make that dream come true."

Successful completion of the CCNA certification exam is the first step toward a career in the computer and networking fields. These high school students have the skills and training necessary to move forward in the IT field or continue on towards a college degree.
