Media Alert - Two Significant Events Build NASA & Estrella Mountain Partnership

WHAT:Lieutenant Colonel, Carlos I.Noriega, USMC, NASA Astronaut will kick off Arizona's first ever NASA Awareness Day. The event will bring more than 400 students from elementary, middle, high school and community colleges together to learn about the role of science in their lives and inspire the next generation of explorers.

WHEN: Friday, October 4, 2002 9:00 - noon Opening Ceremonies NASA Trailer and Exhibits Student break-out sessions

WHERE: Estrella Mountain Community College 3000 N. Dysart Road (Northwest corner of Dysart & Thomas Roads in Avondale)

WHY: NASA and Estrella Mountain are partnering to inspire the next generation of Hispanic scientists, engineers, technologist and explorers. NASA, Estrella Mountain, and regional school systems stand together to be a part of the solution to Arizona's most pressing education dilemma - preparing young Hispanic and other underrepresented students to take their place in today's knowledge-based economy. During breakout sessions, students will learn more about space and aeronautics and the careers that are available to students interested in mathematics, science, and technology and engineering. Students will meet visiting scientists and NASA astronaut Lt. Colonel Carlos Noriega.
