Knitting Moves to the Mainstream: New Classes Offered for an Ancient Art

Once referred to as ¡°Granny's favorite pastime? knitting is a craft fast moving to the forefront of mainstream culture. Tweens, teens, and those in their 20's and 30's are approaching the craft with a raging enthusiasm. With comparisons to yoga, a key benefit of knitting is stress relief.Estrella Mountain's Learning for Life, the campus's community education program, is highlighting this latest and greatest trend during its July and August course offerings.2 Sticks & A String, is a basic course for beginners designed to teach methods of casting on, knit and purl stitching, and binding off. Knitters will learn how to read a pattern and common knitting abbreviations. This course is offered Tuesday, July 20 and July 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The cost is $29.Knitting Socks, is for the knitter with a basic knowledge of knitting and purling. Knitters will make their very own socks by learning techniques such as heel turning and toe finishing. This course is offered Tuesday, August 3 and August 10 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The cost is $29.Scarf Knitting.Basic knowledge of knitting and purling allows knitters to take this art form to the next level. Explore the latest designer yarns and create a beautiful scarf. Make a fashion statement or give as a gift.
