Estrella Mountain Brings Local Face to Worldwide Pandemic of AIDS

Estrella Mountain Community College will commemorate World AIDS Day on its campus on Thursday, December 1, 2005, bringing a localized approach to this worldwide crisis. In addition to a variety of events, including a film series and a silent auction to benefit Doctors Without Borders, the college is pleased to host panels of the internationally renowned AIDS Memorial Quilt, sponsored by the NAMES Project Foundation. The large, colorful, and emotionally evocative panels honor and memorialize victims of AIDS from all ages and walks of life, including the relative of one Goodyear family. The college will host an evening art reception to give community members an opportunity to view the quilt, while listening to information presented by HIV Law project, as well as personal experiences from West Valley residents who lost loved ones to the disease. The reception is free and open to the public, and begins at 6:00 p.m, Plaza Gallery, Estrella Mountain Community College, 3000 North Dysart Road, Avondale, Arizona.
