'Star' Professor at Estrella Mountain Elected to National Physics Board

Dwain Desbien, PhD, Estrella Mountain science faculty, was elected to American Association of Physics Teachers 2006 Executive Board. Dr. Desbien will assume the role of Member-at-Large Two-Year College for a three-year term. He has been involved in a number of Two-Year College (TYC) activities including being an active member of the AAPT Committee on TYC, co-leader for two TYC physics workshop projects, and leading workshops on science/mathematics classroom management strategies at various two-year and university institutions.Dr. Desbien has been involved with the Association since 1992, when a one-year membership was granted him as a teaching award at Kansas University. Dr. Desbien credits that one year membership as changing the course of his career for good. The American Association of Physics Teachers, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the understanding and appreciation of physics through teaching, will now celebrate its 75th Anniversary in 2006, and has approximately 10,000 members.Estrella Mountain Community College is a Maricopa Community Colleges.
