FREE CLASSICAL CONCERT

West Valley residents won't need to venture into downtown Phoenix to hear a live performance by the Phoenix Symphony. And they won't have to drain their pockets, either. On Wednesday, September 27, at 10 am, the Phoenix Symphony String Orchestra brings classical music to the campus of Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, during a free, one-hour concert. The concert will be held in the Estrella Hall Community Room. New Resident Conductor for the 2006-07 season, Lawrence Golan, will lead the concert. Recognized for his expertise across musical styles and periods, Dr. Golan has conducted orchestras throughout the United States and in 10 countries. The program, funded through a partnership between the Maricopa Community Colleges and the Phoenix Symphony, is designed for students and community members. Interactive in nature, the program provides an engaging musical experience by weaving lecture and demonstrations throughout the musical performance. Events such as this demonstrate Estrella Mountain's long-standing commitment to the arts and fine arts programming, in addition to providing culturally-enriching experiences for the college's students.RSVP's are recommended.
