SouthWest Skill Center to Hold Ceremony of Completion

Estrella Mountain Community College's (EMCC) resident center for industry and job training, the SouthWest Skill Center (SWSC), will host a ceremony of completion at Copper Canyon High School in Glendale on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 6:30p.m. Copper Canyon High School is located at 9126 W. Camelback Road.

The SouthWest Skill Center offers business technology and medical assisting programs, which take an average of six months to complete. Fifty-four students will celebrate their accomplishments in programs including business technology, phlebotomy, medical assisting, and practical nursing.

The ceremony will begin with a welcome from the keynote speaker, EMCC's new President, Dr. Ernie Lara; followed by comments by Clay Goodman, vice president for occupational education; Adolfo Gamez, director of the SWSC and Mayor of Tolleson; Raquel City-Carroll, assistant director of the SWSC; and Dr. Judy Crume, nursing director.

Three graduating students will make brief speeches about their experiences: Pei Lee of the business technology program; April Iglesias of the medical assistant program; and Jean Coons of the phlebotomy program. A traditional lamp lighting ceremony for nursing students will also take place at the completion ceremony.
