It's a Hole-in-One for Estrella Mountain's 5th Annual Golf Tournament

Saturday, September 8, 2007 marked the 5th Annual Golf Tournament put on by Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), a Maricopa Community College. Each year, EMCC hosts a golf tournament to raise funds for the Valley of the Sun United Way and a selected local charity. This year, EMCC employees chose to focus their efforts on benefiting the Southwest Lending Closet, a local charity in Avondale, just down the road from the college.

The Southwest Lending Closet, established in 2000, is an organization that lends home health equipment to anyone who needs it - for free. The Southwest Lending Closet operates under the hands of generous volunteers and by donations from area cities including Avondale, Litchfield Park, Goodyear, Tolleson, and Buckeye.

Saturday's golf tournament brought in more than $4,000 for the Valley of the Sun United Way, who will then distribute proceeds from the event to the Southwest Lending Closet.

Estrella Mountain's President, Dr. Ernie Lara; Mayors Adolfo Gamez of Tolleson, Jim Cavanaugh of Goodyear, and Bobby Bryant of the Town of Buckeye; and Vice Mayor Chuck Wolf and Councilman Ken Weise from the City of Avondale, attended the golf tournament which could only be possible due to the participation of several west valley organizations. Avondale Toyota/Scion sponsored the hole-in-one prize - a 2007 Toyota Tundra; iMix sponsored lunch and snacks from Rosie & Terri's Mexican Cafe; the Town of Buckeye; Sun Land Beef Co.; Teacher Lynda's Swim School; SRP; Adolfson & Peterson; and the Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa also helped make this event a success.

Estrella Mountain has supported the Valley of the Sun United Way for more than 15 years. If you would like to help support the United Way campaign, please contact Maureen Hannon at 623-535-2730 or e-mail [email protected].
