As part of the Maricopa Community College District, Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is committed to the district-wide effort of helping our local communities through the Valley of the Sun United Way. Estrella Mountain has supported the Valley of the Sun United Way for more than 15 years, choosing a local charity to focus on each year.
Several events will take place during the month of October to raise funds for the Valley of the Sun United Way, who will then distribute proceeds to the Southwest Lending Closet in Avondale. The remaining events are as follows:
Oktoberfest - Tuesday, October 2, 2007
It's time to celebrate at the traditional German festival known as Oktoberfest. On Tuesday, October 2, the annual United Way Oktoberfest celebration will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 2:00 p.m. in the Komatke Courtyard. There will be authentic German food, including bratwurst, potato salad, sauerkraut, a roll, and root beer; all for $5, and apple strudel for $1. Krugunkraut, an authentic German polka band will perform from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The event was made possible by donations from Lufthansa, Student Life, and Office of the Arts. Open to the community.
October 9 - Estrella Bay Auction BeginsIf you like Ebay, you'll love the Estrella Bay auction. There will be plenty of new and gently used items for employees to bid on and it's for a great cause. Visit www.estrellamountain.edu/unitedway/silentauction.asp starting October 9 to start bidding!
October 14 - Breakfast & BowlingB&B has a new meaning: breakfast and bowling! Held at Tri-City Bowl in Avondale from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., this event includes unlimited bowling, shoe rental, and a continental breakfast for only $10. This event is open to the community and is sponsored by Metz Tax Service in Glendale.
October 24 - Bake SaleAs part of EMCC's Domestic Violence Awareness Week, the United Way committee will host a bake sale in front of Estrella Hall from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. to benefit both the Valley of the Sun United Way and the New Life Shelter.
October 25 - Main Event & Live AuctionLuau themed festivities begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Estrella Hall Community Room with auction items available for viewing at 12:00 p.m. and during the event. Students and Staff are welcome.
