EMCC Nursing Students Give Back This Holiday Season

Estrella Mountain's nursing students painted a picture of health for Avondale Elementary School District's Michael Anderson Elementary School this week.

For the second year, EMCC's nursing students have been working with the elementary school's nurse, Becky Franklin, as part of their community nursing course. They noted that the nurse's office was very sterile and kid unfriendly, so they decided to paint a colorful mural, including giraffe that doubles as a growth chart, to give back to the school for their dedication in providing learning opportunities for EMCC nursing students. The students purchased the materials on their own.

Michael Anderson Elementary School serves underprivileged children and Estrella Mountain's nursing students hope to help make their day a little bit brighter by making them feel comfortable while visiting the school nurse. The school's principal, Randy Watkins, said, "EMCC's students have always brought such good to this school. To do this for us is very special."
