Estrella Mountain's SouthWest Skill Center Holds Completion Ceremony for 114 Students

Estrella Mountain Community College's SouthWest Skill Center will celebrate the accomplishments of 114 students at its completion ceremony to be held Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Westview High School's Performing Arts Center, located at 10850 W. Garden Lakes Parkway in Avondale. The ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m.

This will be the first completion ceremony that includes students from the Skill Center's newest programs, Certified Distribution Logistics and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Eight students from the Certified Distribution Logistics program, which prepares students for the growing warehouse distribution industry; and 20 students from the EMT program, will be the first to celebrate their completion in those areas. Michael Rosas, an EMT student said, "The EMT program has given me the confidence to save lives." However, this concept isn't foreign to Rosas. He's in the Army reserves where he serves as a firefighter, and it's his dream to continue that service when he's not serving our country. "I'm applying at various fire stations here in the valley. They all require EMT certification before you're able to apply, so this program has gotten me that much closer to being able to do that," he said.
