Domestic Violence Awareness Week

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and for several years, Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) has done its part in empowering students and making them aware of the atrocities happening behind closed doors in our own communities.

Last year, one of the projects, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Week at the campus, was the EMCC Clothesline Project, inspired by The Clothesline Project, "a visual display that bears witness to the violence against women," created in 1990 in Massachusetts. Faculty, staff and students created t-shirts that represented victims of domestic violence and hung them from a clothesline displayed on campus.

This year, the EMCC Clothesline project will again be on display in the Image Zone (southeast lawn) for Domestic Violence Awareness Week, October 13 - 20. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to add to the project by creating new t-shirts and adding them to the clothesline. Please contact Dr. Olga Tsoudis for more information at 623-935-8592.
