Avnet Tech Games 2009 - Getting Arizona's College Students Ready for Work

Registration is now open for the 2009 Avnet Tech Games!

What: Students from Arizona's colleges and universities will gather for the fourth annual Avnet Tech Games to tackle technology projects typically encountered by employees at the world's leading technology companies and win thousands of dollars in scholarship money. Avnet Tech Games is a collaborative effort by Arizona educators and technology companies to help the state's two- and four-year college students acquire skills they need to thrive in the modern workplace.

When: Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

About the Avnet Tech Games: At the Avnet Tech Games, students compete in a game-like setting to gain hands-on and practical experience in addition to the academic curricula. Students learn how theoretical concepts can be applied to their careers and to solve real-world problems. To compete, students work with a faculty member to prepare for one of the following nine games:
- Accenture Tech Challenge - develop and present a technology proposal to address a humanitarian need
- AMD Build and Tune the Fastest Computer - build and assemble the fastest computer
- Networking Within the Enterprise - connect, configure and secure a computer network to support a fictitious company's business demands
- Design and Build a Digital Device - design and build a digital device
- Multimedia Fast Break - design and create a 30-second Phoenix Suns promotional video
- Patch Panel Madness - build a working data network in the fastest time possible
- Project Greenlight LED Challenge - design, build, test and present a solar-powered "Green Energy" solid-state lamp
- Robot Race Obstacle Course - build a robot and maneuver it around an obstacle course
- VirtualPath Virtualization Challenge - create a virtual server environment

Scholarships & Honorariums: There will be nine winning teams. Each student on a winning team receives a $1,000 scholarship. Faculty receive honorariums - $200 for leading participating teams and $300 for a winning team. Avnet Tech Games also includes a networking hour where students meet and mingle with event sponsors and executives from companies such as Accenture, AMD, Avnet, MAXON, New Angle Media and the Phoenix Suns.
