EMCC Celebrates Cesar Chavez

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), a Maricopa Community College, will celebrate Cesar Chavez by hosting an art exhibition, film series and luncheon for students and community members to learn about and appreciate the contributions of Cesar Chavez and his work.

Art Exhibition; "El Otro Lado; The Other Side," April 6 - April 27, 2009
Estrella Mountain Community College will host "El Otro Lado (The Other Side)," a photography exhibit created by Emily Matyas, a local artist and college instructor. The exhibit features a photo documentary of the lives of undocumented immigrants and their families, to bring light to "the other side" of the immigration issue. The artist worked with social workers in Mexico to connect with the families left behind by spouses, mothers, fathers, and children who immigrated illegally to the United States. The exhibit will be available April 6 - April 27 in Estrella Hall.

"The Fight in the Fields" Screening; Monday, April 6, 2009 and Tuesday, April 7, 2009; 6:00 p.m.
Estrella Mountain will screen the Cesar Chavez documentary, "The Fight in the Fields: Cesar Chavez and the Farm Workers' Struggle," Monday and Tuesday evening in the college's Plaza Gallery. Part one will be shown Monday and part two will be shown Tuesday. Following the completion of the film on Tuesday evening, participants will discuss the film.
