El Camino del Movimiento: Art Walk with the Artists - September 27
Estrella Mountain's Visual Exhibition program welcomes the work of nine Xico, Inc. member artists and the Posters of the Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF), both provided by Xico, Inc., one of the oldest arts organizations in the state of Arizona.

Xico, Inc.'s mission is to nourish a greater appreciation of the cultural and spiritual heritage of Latino and Indigenous peoples of the Americas. El Camino Del Movimiento was created to demonstrate the evolution of an artist's identity throughout their creative careers. Journal entries by the artists accompany the work.

Posters of the Royal Chicano Air Force was formed in 1969 as an art collective in Sacramento, California. It served as a main center of support during the Chicano civil rights movement. RCAF members utilized the technique of printmaking to promote a unified ideology to rally the community. The main purpose of the posters was to serve as a call to action for community members to unite. Embedded in each poster is an array of symbols, icons, colors, and phrases that hold specific reference to various components of the Chicano civil rights movement.

The art walk is free and open to the public and will be held Thursday, September 27 at the EMCC Plaza Gallery, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The exhibition will be on campus in both Komatke and Estrella Halls until November 2007.

3rd Annual Hispanic Leadership Workshop and Luncheon - October 18
The purpose of this event, themed "Lead from Where You Are," is to engage the Latino/a students on campus in a workshop that will allow them to identify with local citizens who demonstrate leadership in their everyday lives. The event will focus on community members who are making a difference in their communities and how students can attain their goals and become leaders in their communities as well.

The luncheon will be held Thursday, October 18, 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. in Montezuma Hall in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The program will begin with an informal luncheon followed by remarks from a panel of selected community members. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a Q & A session and discussion with the panel. This event is free and open to the public.
