Estrella Mountain Community College will again be offering its popular summer learning programs for kids, the Junior ACE Academy and the Kid’s College. A variety of programs and options are being offered to encourage learning and familiarize them with college, designed to help them get ahead of the learning curve while gaining confidence and having fun. The ACE courses will be held at the EMCC Avondale campus located on Dysart and Thomas Roads. The Kid’s College will be offering courses at both of the EMCC campuses, in Avondale and the new EMCC Buckeye Educational Center, located at 902 East Eason Avenue in Buckeye.

The Junior ACE Summer Academy (Achieving a College Education) is a grant-funded program for students entering 6th through 10th grade in fall 2012. There is no cost, but applications are required and are due Friday, March 30, 2012 by 5:00 p.m.  Eligibility is based on meeting one or more of selection criteria, including first generation college student, single parent, economic or living hardships, or a relative of a former ACE student.

Courses in the Jr. ACE Academy are clearly focused on science and math, designed to be challenging and inspirational for the respective grade levels of students entering their 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th grade year. There is one specific course for each of the student grade levels, lasting one to five weeks depending on the grade level. Classes start at the end of May and extend through the end of June.
