AVONDALE, Arizona – The Veterans Club at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), in partnership with the City of Avondale, is sponsoring a Fitness Fun Run on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2015, benefitting the Dr. Bryan K. Tippett Memorial Fund for student scholarships.

The Fitness Fun Run is a part of Avondale’s annual Veterans Day Celebration, held at the Avondale Civic Center Amphitheatre, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive.

The 5K course offers six mini boot camp stations to provide more challenge, fun and fitness. The stations include timed push-ups and sit-ups, tire flips, ammo can lifts, a mini military like assault course and a dummy grenade toss grand finale. Modified versions will be provided for those who need to take it easy, or runners/walkers are free to bypass stations.

Race check-in begins at 6:00 a.m. with a start time of 7:00 a.m. The fee is $25 for those who pre-register online at www.estrellamountain.edu/vetfunrun by October 26, and $35 thereafter, and on day of the event. Discounts are available for Veterans and Active Military. Run registration includes a commemorative performance t-shirt, swag bag, free pancake breakfast and entrance into prize drawing. A Kids Zone, including a kid-friendly course, is free to ages 12 years and younger with parent registration.

As a way to inspire future EMCC college students, the Junior ROTC Cadets from Agua Fria High School, Westview High School and Tolleson Union High School will participate as boot camp motivators, along with Fitness Station sponsors CrossFit West Valley, Ki-Senshi Martial Arts, Strength, Fitness & Nutrition, and Litchfield Fit Body Boot Camp.

After the race, Avondale's public celebration begins with a free pancake breakfast prepared by EMCC culinary students, followed by family entertainment and Veterans Day Ceremony. The celebration is held on the Civic Center amphitheater lawn, so attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The celebration also includes patriotic displays provided by local Veteran groups, a formal ceremony with presentations representing all branches of military services and speakers from Luke Airforce Base. Performances by EMCC dance students will include patriotic themes and special tribute to Dr. Bryan K. Tippett.

Sponsors for entire event include AtoZ Rentals, CBS Local Radio (KOOL, KMLE, LIVE101.5), Crossfit West Valley, Ground Control Coffee, Hello Promo, Keepsake Trophies, Ki-Senshi Martial Arts, Litchfield Fit Body Boot Camp, Luke Airforce Base, Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, NextCare Urgent Care, OsteoStrong, Sam's Club, Stotz Equipment and Strength, Fitness and Nutrition.
