AVONDALE, Arizona  – The words “I will” have become synonymous with student success and personal commitment at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), where students, staff and faculty are preparing to host the fourth annual Student Success Fair on March 1 and 2, 2016.

Designed with the “I Will Graduate” theme, the Student Success Fair inspires students to personalize and “own” their individual academic and career goals.

The EMCC fair will kick off on Tuesday, March 1, with a day session from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and an evening session from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The event continues Wednesday, March 2, with a day session from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Future EMCC students are encouraged to attend the evening session on March 1, which includes additional resources and information for graduating high school students transitioning into college.

All three sessions are held on EMCC campus grounds and courtyards, located at 3000 N. Dysart Rd. in Avondale. The fair is presented in open house format and is free and open to the public.

In a fun and festive atmosphere, future and current students are provided a “graduation passport” to guide them to various tables and talk with staff, faculty and student representatives about their goals.

By visiting the various passport zones, students discover the resources and requirements for college completion, including enrollment and registration, academic success strategies, student life and leadership opportunities, degree and job training programs and requirements, graduation deadlines, and more.

After completing the passport, individuals receive a free, customizable EMCC T-shirt to declare their graduation date and show their EMCC pride. Opportunities to pose in a photo booth, participate in a meet-and-greet with faculty, and interact with university transfer reps are complemented with enjoying free food, music and swag.

Increasing current and future students’ comprehension of college requirements, providing a pathway to graduation with personalized information and support, and connecting to the resources needed to succeed, students develop a greater understanding of how to achieve their goals.

The inaugural Student Success Fair was held in 2013 and has continued to grow. Approximately 1,000 individuals annually attend the two day event and the fair has served more than 3,000 students to date. The 2016 Student Success Fair continues from the foundation in which it was established: celebrating students in all stages of their success.
