AVONDALE, Arizona – Two Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) students were recently selected for the prestigious 2015 All-Arizona Academic Team, which recognizes the top community college students in the state. Dinorah Fougere and Phu Huynh will receive a full, two-year scholarships and tuition waivers to their choice of Arizona's three state universities (ASU, UA, NAU).

Fougere and Huynh were among 75 other top community college students in Arizona recognized at the March 3 award luncheon.

Both Fougere and Huynh achieved the distinction and honor of ranking in First Team, receiving an additional $1,000 scholarship and become eligible for the All-USA competition which further selects the top 20 national scholars. Additionally, they proceeded to garner further accolades by being named as 2016 Coca-Cola Foundation Bronze Scholars for an additional $1,000 scholarship.

The twenty students named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team from the state first teams will be featured in a spring global edition of USA TODAY, each receiving a $2,500 stipend, medallion, obelisk and certificate. These recognitions are presented to students at a ceremony at the American Association of Community Colleges’ (AACC) Annual Convention.

Students are selected as a result of a rigorous application process sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and the American Association of Community Colleges. To be eligible for the award, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, be in good academic standing, be working on an associate’s degree, demonstrate leadership, and be involved on campus and/or volunteer in their communities.
