Emergency Preparedness Training Exercise, March 15

March 09, 2010

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), and the Avondale and Goodyear Police Departments will conduct a joint training exercise on the EMCC campus from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., on Monday, March 15, 2010 while students are on Spring Break.

The listed teams wish to notify the media and the citizens of the West Valley that the exercise will be conducted under the direction of the Police Agencies SWAT Commanders, the College Public Safety Office and the Campus Administration.

This exercise will test the inter-operational capabilities between the Avondale Police, Goodyear Police and the EMCC Public Safety Office in the event of an on campus emergency such as the Virginia Tech shooting and other recent college shootings where an on-scene rapid deployment/active shooter crisis has taken place.

As part of the college’s Emergency Preparedness training, Estrella Mountain’s administrators will also participate in and observe the exercise to further prepare them for possible emergency situations on campus. Police agencies across the country conduct joint training on a regular basis to test their SWAT Teams abilities under extreme circumstances, test their inter-agency response protocols, and allow agency teams to work together.
