Partnership Provides Training and Summer Jobs to Students

July 07, 2010

Estrella Mountain Community College received a grant through a partnership with the Arizona Call a Teen Youth Resources (ACYR) to offer a training and summer job placement opportunities to students. ACYR has been providing summer jobs to youth since the 1970s and believes in offering complementary programs and educational opportunities to guide youth to a successful adulthood.

This summer, 200 students, aged 14 to 24, will have participated in this program by its completion on July 7, 2010. The program consists of a 2-credit class, CPD 102AB: Career Exploration, and 6 hours of “green” career training through the college's Community Education department. At the end of this one week program, all students are given a summer job opportunity with one of many partnering companies. Although most classes were offered on the Estrella Mountain Community College campus, one section was also offered in the town of Buckeye.
