Recycle Electronics at Free E-Waste Donation Event

March 16, 2011

Community members are invited to recycle electronics at a free e-waste donation event on Saturday, March 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) campus in Avondale. Other than a five-dollar disposal charge for televisions, the event is free.

Community members may drop off computers, laptops, monitors, printers, network cards, routers, hard drives, floppy and CD-ROM drives, copiers, fax machines, telephones, cell phones, test equipment, wire and cable items, power-supply units, circuit boards, video game equipment, calculators, typewriters, stereo equipment, credit-card machines, VCRs, small appliances and televisions. EMCC faculty, staff and students may also drop off e-waste from March 7 to March 25 in specially marked bins in Komatke Hall, building A.

The recycling event is sponsored by EcoAvenues, E-Waste Harvesters, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and the City of Avondale.  The last such event, held in late January on the EMCC campus, boasted the highest attendance since ADEQ began the program in 2009, with 750 vehicles bringing 58,524 pounds of e-waste to be recycled.

The e-waste recycling event will be held concurrently with EcoAvenues 2011, the second annual community collaboration of the Southwest Valley and Buckeye Valley Chambers of Commerce, EMCC and the cities of Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear, Litchfield Park and Tolleson. Eco Avenues will be held at the EMCC campus from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26.

EcoAvenues is a free event that showcases environmentally friendly products, services, education and activities from businesses and organizations throughout the Valley. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about 'Going Green' and ways of protecting our environment and get information on alternative energy sources; home and business products; hybrid/low-emission transportation; recyclable building materials; innovative technologies; demonstrations; locally-grown, fresh, organic foods, vegetables and fruits and more.
