SWSC Offers New Workforce Training Programs

March 16, 2011

SouthWest Skill Center at Estrella Mountain Community College now offers two new workforce training programs: Home Health Care and Veterinary Assisting. The 80-hour Home Health Care Aide program will ready students for work as a Home Health Care Aide, projected to be the fastest growing occupation through 2014 (U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics), and will prepare students to sit for the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) Home Care Aide Certification examination. Classes will be scheduled for Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The Veterinary Assistant program, a 100-hour program of classroom lectures and hands-on lab work, will provide instruction and training in caring for animals as well as an understanding of front-office practices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for professional veterinary assistants rose 39 percent in 2010. The Veterinary Assistant program will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Both programs start in Summer 2011. To register for either program, call 623 935 8888. For more information, please call 623 535 2730 or visit the Community Education webpage.
