AVONDALE, Arizona - Two Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) students will win full tuition waivers to their choice of one of Arizona's three public universities (ASU, NAU, UofA) plus a cash prize through the All-USA scholarship competition. Selection is based on eligibility requirements and submitted essay questions. Deadline for the essays are September 26, 2012, by 5:00 p.m.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship award must meet eligibility requirements, including having a currently enrolled status at EMCC, a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or better, and have completed at least 36 semester/credit hours at the 100-level of above by the end of the fall 2012 semester.

The first step in the process begins with students contacting one of the two faculty scholarship advisors, Marylyn Bradley, Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Advisor, or Dr. Roselyn Turner, Faculty Scholarship Coordinator, to discuss deadlines, details and best approaches for success. Consultations will be scheduled from August 6 through September 21, 2012.

Each student must submit a 500-word essay, letters of recommendation, and an application that boasts their academic performance, leadership roles, and community engagement. Although not required, students are often involved in honors programs, scholarly activities, and campus clubs and organizations, which demonstrates personal commitment to learning and achievement.

Last year's recipients were Julia Kilduff and Kodiak Darling. (See "Related Links" below for story.)
