EMCC PRIDE Club selected for diversity award

March 13, 2017

The EMCC PRIDE Club received a 2017 Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) Award of Excellence for Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC). The award recognizes PRIDE students including Moriah Giesbrecht, Alexis Haas and Desirae Taylor, along with club advisor Michael Bartley and participating community representatives Juli Myers, Kado Stewart and Isaac Tambini for the fall 2016 event “G.A.Y.: Gender and You.”

Students hosted a two-session event about the spectrum of gender and sexual identities that included an informational presentation, panel and engaging dialog that supported inter-cultural awareness and civic and social responsibility.

The DAC Awards of Excellence recognize the efforts of Maricopa students, employees and programs that integrate diversity, inclusiveness, equity, and justice into our educational mission. Since 1994, the Diversity Advisory Council has provided advocacy and promoted policy changes, training opportunities and practices that support an inclusive and equitable environment for students, faculty and staff.

The 2017 DAC Awards of Excellence will be presented Friday, March 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Mesa Community College in the Navajo Room. This event has been held annually since 2007.
