Inaugural free community event focuses on children ages birth to five with engaging activities and performances

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), a Maricopa Community College, values learning any place, anywhere and anytime for learners of all ages. The college’s inaugural Celebration of Young Children, hosted by EMCC education students, invites community members to experienced themed areas that give parents and caregivers a chance to engage in activities that help them encourage learning at home. The free community event offers interactive experiences coordinated with themed-programming used by the National Association of Young Children during their Week of the Young Child, held in April.

Time/Date: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017

Location: Estrella Mountain Conference Center at the EMCC campus, 3000 N. Dysart Rd., in Avondale, Ariz.

Musical stimulation is a part of these crucial years in a child’s development. EMCC is excited to host a special performance by Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band. The English-Spanish language indie pop-rock band has received both Emmy and Grammy awards for their popular kids-oriented music. Their song “Falling” was used in a Coca-Cola commercial and their PBS show Lishy Lou and Lucky Too! will soon air for its second season. Not only does this give attendees a fun, musical performance to see and hear, but it inspires the use of kid-friendly music as a way to foster positive development.

The program also gives EMCC students an opportunity to use the knowledge and information gained in their education programs to benefit the greater community. These student leaders will send all attending families home with information about more activities to enjoy at home.
