Opportunity Fair brings students together with employers to explore, learn and prepare

April 03, 2017

The Career & Transfer Center at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC), one of the Maricopa Community Colleges, is presenting this semester’s Job, Internship, and Service Learning Opportunity Fair on Wednesday, April 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This free event is open to students and community members and allows direct contact with a variety of employers looking to fill volunteer slots, internships, and part- and full-time jobs. Currently, 50 employers are scheduled to attend, giving students ample opportunities to form connections. Members of the community are also encouraged to attend this free event and make connections with potential employers and business owners.

Izelle Silva, Coordinator of Student Services emphasizes the importance of those chances for relationships to form. “This event provides an open, welcoming forum where employers can actually come on to our campus, meet our students in-person and develop those unique connections.”

Four different participatory zones, Employees, LinkedIn, Dress for Success, and Mock Interviews give students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in career preparation, including engaging in activities like taking a professional headshot. Students participating in all four zones can be entered in a drawing for a prize.

Each of these designated areas offer a focus on a different, valuable part of the employment process. Being informed about things like what to wear or how to communicate during a job interview can make the student more employable and successful, by alleviating some of the stressors involved in seeking gainful employment.

The Opportunity Fair will be held outdoors on the Estrella North Plaza on the EMCC campus, located at 3000 N. Dysart Road in Avondale.
