Throughout each semester, the glass display cases in Estrella Hall and Komatke B and Komatke C Halls are utilized to present artwork to celebrate the heritage and history months. The EMCC Performing Arts Center also features a stunning exhibition area in its lobby that features a changing roster of artwork.
On display for the 2016-2017 summer semester, the Estrella Hall cases, along with the Komatke B Hall cases feature artistic and historical items that highlight EMCC’s growth and achievements over the course of its 25-year history. From photographs to news clippings to ceramic creations, this is a jaunt down memory lane that shows the expansion of the campus in all areas, from the addition of buildings to seeing the number of students, faculty, and staff rise. A fun display of T-shirts in Estrella Hall showcases school spirit, as well as creative design work by EMCC employees.
Cleveland artist Mark Keffer’s work, which includes pieces from his Future of Heads series, is displayed in Komatke C Hall. His abstract paintings are complex and explore different life structures. About his paintings, Keffer says, “I try to create a balance within various aspects of my work. I pair an existential austerity with a visual approach that flirts with the ridiculous. I create imagery that, while nearly abstract, is suggestive of both the celestial and the microscopic.”
On exhibit in the Performing Arts Center through August 15 is work by the current Fine Art Faculty. The exhibition serves as a representation of the diverse styles and approaches to art making being explored by our talented faculty members working in a wide range of media. Faculty excitedly take advantage of this opportunity to share their creative practice with their colleagues and students and to connect with the community through the realm of creativity.
