Ten EMCC students, most of them from the Communication Club, packed cargo boxes Dec. 1 at Project C.U.R.E. (Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment) in Tempe.
“It was a great learning experience for all,” Communication Faculty member Cheryl Hebert said. “This service learning was for any student across the disciplines, yet most in Communication Club or classes. It was a wonderful experience and we all learned a lot both at the facility and from each other.”
Since its founding, Project C.U.R.E. has reached patients, families, and children in 130 countries. Today, Project C.U.R.E.’s work and mission help to bridge staggering health resource gaps in the developing world by empowering doctors and nurses with the tools they need to treat disease, deliver vaccines, perform life-changing surgeries, and ensure safe childbirth.
Some students in the Communication Club are in health-related stem programs and have the opportunity to get further involved in Project C.U.R.E. by volunteering and completing internships. Eventually, they could help meet the needs in logistics, nursing, and medical professions in developing countries around the world.
